Cerebrospinal Fluid on Calcium Transport in Patients With Cerebral Infarction
نویسنده
چکیده
Background and Purpose In this study we investigated whether cerebrospinal fluid in patients with brain infarction possesses an activity that contributes to the evolution of brain ischemia. As a test, the effect of cerebrospinal fluid on Ca influx into the intracellular space was chosen because this process is a mechanism for vasospasm, platelet aggregation as thrombi, and neuron damage. Methods Effects of cerebrospinal fluid taken from 48 patients with cerebral hemispheric infarction on the concentration of cytosolic free Ca in platelets were studied using the fluorescent probe quin-2. Hemispheric cerebral blood flow was measured using '"Xe intravenous injection. Results Cerebrospinal fluid in 19 of 48 patients with cerebral hemispheric infarction increased the level of cytosolic free

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In this study we investigated whether cerebrospinal fluid in patients with brain infarction possesses an activity that contributes to the evolution of brain ischemia. As a test, the effect of cerebrospinal fluid on Ca2+ influx into the intracellular space was chosen because this process is a mechanism for vasospasm, platelet aggregation as thrombi, and neuron damage. متن کاملDetermination of S-100 and glial fibrillary acidic protein concentrations in cerebrospinal fluid after brain infarction.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We initiated the present study to evaluate the clinical value of consecutive concentration determinations of S-100 and glial fibrillary acidic proteins in cerebrospinal fluid from patients with brain infarction. METHODS We took sequential samples of cerebrospinal fluid from 28 patients within 48 hours, at 7 days, and at 18-21 days after the ictus. We measured astroglial...

Meningitis is one of the most common infectious cerebral nervous system (CNS), defined as an inflammation of the meninges. It is clinically categorized into a chronic and acute based on the acuity of symptoms. Vomiting, bulging fontanel and fever are the main symptoms in the patients with meningitis. Bacterial meningitis is a severe, potentially life-threatening infection that is associated wit...
متن کاملCerebrospinal fluid in cerebral hemorrhage and infarction.
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) abnormalities were correlated with pathological diagnoses in 61 patients with autopsy-verified intracerebral hemorrhage or cerebral infarction. Lumbar punctures were performed within one week of onset of symptoms. The CSF color and red blood cell counts were the most useful CSF parameters in differentiating between intracerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction. In 7...
متن کاملSanguineous cerebrospinal fluid in recanalized cerebral infarction.
To clarify the causal relationship between spontaneous recanalization of the occluded cerebral artery and development of hemorrhagic infarction, 15 patients with internal carotid or middle cerebral arterial axis occlusion were submitted to consecutive lumbar punctures and follow-up cerebral angiography. Consequently, six of seven recanalized patients had sanguineous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) on...
